Virtual Networks, SD-WAN and Load Balancers in SDDC

There are many different ways of virtualizing networks. These range from a full network virtualization in the data center and micro-segmentation for increasing security, all the way to virtual load balancers and SD-WAN solutions for central data center networking. Which of these solutions is correct for you depends on the specific requirements.

Virtual networks

Companies should begin familiarizing themselves with virtual networks as soon as they set out on the journey towards a software-defined data center. There are a variety of solutions to choose from, each with their own advantages and disadvantages for the respective purpose. By precisely defining your requirements, you can be sure to choose the best-possible products.

Micro-Segmentation & Network Assessment

Micro-segmentation is a good way to ensure greater security in virtual infrastructure. It implements a separate firewall for each virtual machine (VM) on their network card. It is then possible to create policies for this firewall that enable or block communication between the various VMs. The VMs can also be compiled into groups to simplify administration. This solution boosts IT security compared to a local firewall in the VM operating system. As the policies are configured outside the virtual machines, they cannot be deactivated from within the VM. If you wish to introduce micro-segmentation, we recommend a network assessment in order to map out the communication relations between the virtual machines, before introducing the firewall policies.

Virtual Load Balancers and SD-WAN

Should you wish to not only provide services in a central data center, but also connect distributed data centers or locations to the central infrastructure without expensive MPLS lines, an SD-WAN solution can provide precisely the flexibility you need. Virtual load balancers help you utilize your systems as efficiently as possible. This lets you offer services in both the cloud and a local data center without having to make any configuration changes.
