The alternative development platform

The IBM System z Personal Development Tool (zPDT) is a software development platform for qualified IBM PartnerWorld independent software vendors. The zPDT is a virtualized Z system environment running on Intel-based hardware that enables the operation of IBM Z operating systems. As an affordable platform for mainframe-based software development, the zPDT is a remote development system that represents the perfect addition to conventional IBM Z hardware and SVA zHosting. Despite being slightly limited in terms of connectivity and the usability of certain features of the latest IBM Z generation, the zPDT is a full software development platform.

Our advantages

To benefit from both zPDT and the associated free use of IBM software, you first need to register and obtain special zPDT approval from IBM in the zDD program. We can help you administer your development environment. As a result of many years of collaboration with IBM in software development, we can provide support ranging from inclusion in the IBM zDD program to the finalization of contracts. The license period is always 12 months, throughout which you will also be able to benefit from support from our American partner. This support is automatically extended by another 12 months if the license period is extended.

zPDT-Bundles

SVA can offer various zPDT bundles that can provide a complete solution for you as the user. The IBM-certified basic system includes the zPDT USB dongle, the IBM 1090 code, openSUSE Linux as the basic operating system, and at least one IBM operating system in the latest version. We can adapt the hardware to the respective requirements, from a single laptop to a multi-processor server. You decide which bundle fits your requirements best. We then configure, install and provide this according to your specifications.

In addition, SVA offers technical support for the IBM zPDT systems, and can help you identify, diagnose and resolve any problems. Our team of nearly 50 mainframe systems specialists is also available to answer any questions you may have about the IBM operating systems and the associated components. Depending on what you need, they can help you with minor system adjustments, release changes or your day-to-day workload.
